Which type of equipment bag suits you?

• Baseball and softball backpacks: consider a backpack if you prefer to carry your equipment on both shoulders. Check the main compartment, bat storage and strap adjustment, especially for a younger player.
• Wheeled equipment bags: compare these when transporting a larger load. Look at the wheels, handles and overall dimensions, and consider any stairs or uneven ground on your route.

Choose capacity around your equipment

Check the product dimensions and the stated number of bats the bag holds. A bag's outside measurements alone do not tell you whether your particular helmet, shoes or catcher's gear will fit inside. Look for compartment measurements or an explicit description of the equipment it is designed to carry.

If you carry catcher's protective gear, account for every piece alongside your other kit. For children, consider the size and weight of the packed bag as well as the empty bag.

Compare storage and access

Look for the features you will use: separate footwear storage, ventilated compartments, personal-item pockets, bat sleeves or a fence hook. Availability varies by model. Check whether helmet storage is internal or external and how equipment is secured, rather than assuming every bag offers the same layout.
