About the category Fastpitch Bats

Find a fastpitch softball bat suited to your size, strength and swing. Begin with the models your competition permits, then compare length, weight and balance. Fastpitch uses an underhand pitching delivery; choose a bat designed for that version of softball rather than assuming a baseball or slowpitch model is suitable.

Choose length and weight as a pair

Use the manufacturer's size guide as a starting point and consider the player's experience and ability to control the bat. If you already have a bat, note its length and weight before deciding what to change. Buying extra length to grow into is only useful if the player can comfortably manage it now.

What does drop weight tell you?

Drop is weight in ounces minus length in inches. For example, a 30-inch bat weighing 20 ounces has a drop of -10. At the same length, a -10 bat is lighter than a -8 bat. Compare the actual measurements together; the drop number does not describe the whole swing feel.

Compare balance and construction

  • Balance: check whether the model is balanced or carries more weight toward the barrel. Equal listed weights can feel different in motion.
  • Material: compare alloy, composite or mixed construction as specified on the product page.
  • Design: review one-piece or two-piece construction, handle details and the manufacturer's description of the bat's feel.

Confirm approval and permitted use

Check the exact certification required by your competition and any current eligibility restrictions for the model. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for break-in, ball compatibility, temperature and care. Do not assume every composite bat needs the same preparation.

For a different version of softball, see slowpitch bats. Complete your fastpitch setup with suitable softballs, batting gloves and bat accessories.
