Baseball bat size chart by height and weight

This chart is a quick reference for baseball bat length. It narrows the options but cannot replace a swing test, a coach’s advice or the rules of the competition. For a personalized starting point, use the interactive bat guide.

Starting baseball bat lengths

Player heightPlayer weightLength to try
120–130 cm25–30 kg26″
130–140 cm30–40 kg27–28″
140–150 cm40–50 kg29″

170–180 cm70–80 kg32–33″
180+ cm80+ kg33–34″

The values are approximate starting ranges. Players outside the listed height and weight combinations may need another length. Check control during repeated swings.

What inches mean

Inches describe the bat’s length. If the chart suggests two lengths, do not automatically choose the longer one. Compare swing control and speed. Bats of the same length may still feel different because of weight and balance.

Drop is the difference between length in inches and weight in ounces. For example, a 30-inch, 20-ounce bat has a drop of −10. Drop alone does not tell you the bat’s full swing feel.

When the chart is not enough

Softball bats, different age groups and specific leagues may require a different approach or certification. Use the interactive guide for a broader recommendation. Confirm the permitted bat with your coach or competition organizer.
