Fungo Bats

Fungo bats are coaching tools for hitting balls during fielding practice. They are designed around the coach's repeated self-toss-and-hit action, allowing a session to focus on ground balls, fly balls and fielding situations.

Choose for the way you run practice

Compare length, weight and balance together. A longer model and a shorter model can feel very different even when both are labelled fungo bats. Think about whether you mainly work with infielders, send balls to the outfield or move between both tasks.

• Handle and knob: look for a shape that feels comfortable through repeated practice swings.
• Construction: check the material and the manufacturer's instructions for use and care.

A dedicated tool for fielding drills

Use a fungo for its stated coaching purpose. Do not assume it is suitable for pitched-ball batting practice, pitching machines or competitive hitting. For a player's hitting sessions, browse training bats and check the intended drill and ball type.

Inspect the bat before each session and follow the manufacturer's guidance if it shows damage. Pair your choice with suitable baseballs or softballs, and check the storage length of your team equipment bag if the fungo travels with the club's kit.
